Smoking and drinking have now become common habits in many societies. 

Nowadays, young adults, even small boys and girls now see smoking as a normal thing to do without minding how it will affect their health. Some of them see it as a way to relax and socialize. Long-term use of smoking and drinking can lead to physical and mental problems. 

One major effect of smoking is that, it damages one’s health. Smoking affects almost all the organs of the body. It damages the lung and also the kidney causing chronic coughing, difficulty in breathing, and lung cancer. Smoking can also increase heart disease and high blood pressure. This is because weaken the immune system, this is smokers fall ill easily and slowly recover from illness. Smoking reduces life span. 

Alcohol also causes serious effects on one’s health especially when consumed too much. Too much drinking of alcohol can damage the liver, which can result in liver disease or liver failure. Alcohol can also affect the brain causing memory loss and slow thinking. It can also weaken the heart and increase high blood pressure. Drinking alcohol every day can make one addicted to it, making it difficult for one to stop or control it. 

Smoking and drinking both have strong effects on mental and emotional health. When people are depressed or not happy they smoke because it makes them happy and they feel a temporary relief, and once they start believing it, it can lead to stress and they depend on it over time. While alcohol affects the mood and behavior of someone leading to anger and sadness. Alcohol leads to depression and can worsen one’s mental health. 

Smoking and drinking can affect one’s social life and relationships. Smoking and drinking can cause fights within families, friendships, and relationships. Alcohol can make someone act aggressively and be involved in domestic violence. People who are addicted to drinking and smoking everyday maybe rejected by others because of their behavior. The habits can damage marriages, friendships, and their reputation. 

Smoking and drinking also affect financial stability. Money spent on cigarettes and alcohol every day can lead to financial hardship. Money spent on medical bills related to smoking and alcohol illness can also increase financial stress. 

Excess smoking and drinking can reduce one’s focus and character. People who smoke or drink may find it difficult to concentrate on their studies, businesses, and personal development. This lack of focus can result in poor academic performance, missed opportunities, and slow progress in their businesses. 

Smoking and drinking can also affect younger people. People who drink and smoke heavily may not know that they are encouraging children and teenagers to see it as a normal habit. This may also increase the risk of younger people starting these habits early. 

Smoking and drinking can affect one’s image and self-respect. When one is known for drinking and smoking too much, it can reduce how others view the person’s character and responsibilities to handle things. These habits can affect job opportunities and social respect.
